2010 Election Update for Minnesota House District 41A

The 2010 election is fascinating. Two of the 2008 contestants are squaring off against each other:
Keith Downey, GOP endorsed, who barely won the 2008 3-way race and Kevin Staunton, again DFL endorsed.

EdinaModerates.com is informed that Representative Downey is using 2008 information found on this website against Kevin Staunton - without, himself, publishing his own damaging 2008 information.
Flattering - but incomprehensible.

Maybe Mr. Downey is doing it because there is more than enough current information demonstrating that Mr. Downey has amassed a terrible record in the legislature  while supposidly "representing" Edinans.

Never before in the history of legislators representing Edina have we had one that was unable to think for himself and his citizens. Mr. Downey's record shows he votes in "lock-step" with the current very conservative leaders of the Republican Party even if it hurts the known majority wishes of Edinans - who for the most part are conservative fiscally but moderate when it comes to supporting and funding schools, state and city infrastructure, environment, conservation, wilderness, and yes, needed social programs. With 1/4 of all Edinan's now being senior-citizens, you can bet that proper healthcare legislation is very high on their list. Edina's wealthier citizens, in fact, have a history of leading the support for needed programs and being willing, themselves, to dig deep to pay for it. "Politically" Edina has always been "Moderate." Yes, Republican leaning, but "Moderate Republicans" and "Moderate Democrats."

None of it occurred on Mr. Downey's watch. Coming from a city of "leaders", Mr. Downey's legislative history is  that of a total "follower" - especially one joining in "gotcha politics" if it can hurt opposing politicians in their future  elections -  mostly Democrats. Check Mr. Downey's anti-Edina Record line by line at the legislature.

I repeat, no Edina legislator has ever been such a party-line follower. Edina legislators have always been known leaders, negotiators, compromisers, who work with all parties to try get the job done for Minnesota and Edina.

This doesn't mean support for Mr. Staunton, who could turn out to be the reverse of Mr. Downey. When Mr. Downey was elected we did not have the benefit of seeing a record of Edina participation as we do for Mr. Staunton who does an honorable job on the non-partisan Edina Planning Commission. So while Mr. Staunton's political beliefs are very liberal, his record of doing the right thing for Edina citizens far exceeds what Mr. Downey did in the legislature. IF elected, will Mr. Staunton continue to do the "right-thing" for Edinans? or will he run lock-step with the DFL leaders. We'll see.
